Most glass door failures are not product failures — they are installation mistakes. Here are the seven we see most often, and how to avoid them.
1. Skipping the Cutout Drawing
Patch locks and handles need notches and holes cut before toughening. Finalise hardware first, then order glass.
2. Under-Rated Floor Springs
A 90 kg door on a 60 kg spring will drift, slam and die early. Always match the spring's weight rating to the actual door weight with margin.
3. Wrong Gasket or No Gasket
Metal must never touch glass directly. Missing or hardened gaskets concentrate stress and can shatter the edge.
4. Ignoring Floor Level
Floors are rarely perfectly level. A floor spring installed without levelling makes the door swing open or closed on its own.
5. Over-Tightening Screws
Clamp screws should be torqued evenly and snug — over-tightening cracks glass at the corner, the most stressed point.
6. Mixing Brands Mid-Set
Patch profiles differ subtly between brands. Mixing a brand-A top patch with a brand-B bottom patch causes misalignment.
7. No Cycle Testing After Install
Swing the door 20–30 times, checking speed, latch and alignment, before handover — small adjustments now prevent callbacks later.
