Complete Guide to Glass Door Locks: Types, Security & Installation — YUGEDGE Hardware blog

A frameless glass door still needs real security. Modern glass door locks deliver it without ruining the clean look. Here is a practical guide to the main types.

Patch Locks

The most popular option — a patch lock clamps to the bottom corner of the glass and throws a bolt into a floor strike plate. With a euro-profile cylinder you get key operation from both sides. This is the standard for showroom and office entrances.

Corner Locks with Strike Patch

Where the door meets a sidelite (fixed glass panel), a corner lock bolts horizontally into a strike patch on the fixed glass — useful when the floor cannot be drilled.

Centre Locks

For sliding glass doors, centre-mounted locks with hook bolts secure the sliding panel to the fixed panel or jamb.

What Makes a Lock Secure?

  • Cylinder quality: anti-pick pins and hardened cylinders resist tampering.
  • Body material: SS-304 bodies do not corrode or weaken.
  • Gasket grip: quality EPDM gaskets prevent the lock shifting on the glass.

Installation Tips

Glass for patch locks must be pre-cut with the correct notch before toughening — glass cannot be cut after tempering. Always share the lock's cutout drawing with your glass processor in advance.
