Calculating Door Weight
Toughened glass weighs 2.5 kg per m² per mm of thickness. So: height × width × thickness × 2.5. A 2.1 × 0.9 m door in 12 mm glass = 2.1 × 0.9 × 12 × 2.5 ≈ 57 kg.
Ratings to Check
- Floor spring: max door weight AND max door width — both matter, because width creates leverage.
- Patch fittings: rated glass thickness range and door weight.
- Hinges (shower): per-pair weight rating; heavy doors need three hinges or a stronger pair.
The 20% Margin Rule
Choose hardware rated at least 20% above calculated weight. Real doors gain load from wind pressure, user force and handle-side leverage that static calculations miss.
Cycle Ratings
